Data Loss Prevention and Insider Threat Management are Converging
Data Loss Prevention (DLP) is one thing, but to fully know what is going on with your data at all times you also need Insider Threat Management (ITM). These days, both aspects are being increasingly implemented as one and Proofpoint has also jumped on this trend.
Originally, DPL only ensured two things: whether users were handling data according to the organization’s implemented privacy rules; and the protection of intellectual property such as patents or proprietary source code etc.
Now, with Insider Risk Management, DPL can ensure so much more. These systems can now protect data on any client in the organization’s network; it can adjust to all kinds of information such as graphics, tables, source code, operating system features… We’ve all increasingly started working from home, therefore it’s important you can still make sure workers are using your organization’s data properly and securely. Unfortunately, we’ve been seeing more employee turnover in the past years which increased risk of data exfiltration, infiltration, and sabotage. And lastly, there is currently a lack of security talent leaving many organizations under-resourced when dealing with data protection.
Using DPL and ITM simultaneous increases your protection and decreases your SOC-team’s effort when dealing with leaks etc;
