Networks Unlimited, a value-added distributor within the converged technology, data centre, networking and security landscapes, has donated new laptops to assist young learners in two different institutions operating within poorer communities in Gauteng. This forms part of the company’s corporate social investment (CSI) initiatives and focuses on the need for both educators and learners to have access to technology.
Networks Unlimited chose to support Olievenhoutbosch Primary School in Centurion West by donating five brand new laptops. The principal of the school, Ms Audrey Mbatha, was delighted with the donations and confirmed that the laptops would make teaching in the school easier.
Additionally, the organisation provided three laptops to the Ditshego House of Laughter organisation, which assists with poverty alleviation among the community of the Mooiplaas informal settlement, near Centurion. The organisation offers pre-school, aftercare and literacy programmes to help young children develop the necessary skills they need for school.
Mooiplaas is home to about 16,000 people, the majority of whom are either stateless or undocumented, and there are no resources such as schools, running water, police stations, electricity, clinics or formal crèches in a community with a disproportionately high number of younger people.
“While the fundamentals of reading, writing and mathematics remain perennially relevant in education today, we also need to recognise the importance of having access to technology in this modern, digital age. As an IT company, Networks Unlimited has therefore chosen to focus on helping learners by giving them – as well as those who teach them – access to technology, which is increasingly becoming a part of the holistic learning environment. The donation of laptops to these two facilities therefore recognises the uplifting power of education and ties in coherently with our drive to assist in helping poorer communities.”

Networks Unlimited Africa plays its part in committing to SA education
JOHANNESBURG – April, 2019 – “South African businesses need to get positive about education and commit themselves to playing their role in educating South Africa’s children – the onus cannot lie only on the state.”
This was the message from Anton Jacobsz, managing director at Networks Unlimited Africa, commenting after the company’s recent fifth annual corporate charity golf day, where the two beneficiaries of the event were once again based in the education space, namely The Love Trust and Literacy for Life.
Networks Unlimited Africa, a leading value-added distributor within the Sub-Saharan Africa market, has long been a supporter of education, both via its keenly-anticipated golf event, as well as via the company’s internal structures.
The Love Trust, founded in 2009, is a South African non-profit educational organisation which has to date reached over 9,000 primary and secondary beneficiaries in disadvantaged communities. It is also the 53 percent broad-based black economic empowerment (B-BBEE) partner of Networks Unlimited Africa, in a partnership arrangement which allows Networks Unlimited Africa to support its outreach efforts to change the lives of vulnerable children through real practical and educational support.
Literacy for Life is a non-profit company which was established in November 2014 to help cash-strapped South Affricam schools achieve literacy and communication skills. Funding for government schools remain a challenge and funding in under-privileged schools even more so. In many instances, teachers are taking it upon themselves to spend their own money on aids or tools to assist children to be able to learn to read or write or experience the opportunity to express themselves through art.
Sponsors of the Networks Unlimited Africa 2019 corporate charity golf day included business partners such as Attivo Networks, Barnard Inc Attorneys, Cofense, Corporate Traveller, datasciences corporation, EOH, F5 Networks, Fortinet, icomm intelligent communications, Leopardsong Manor, Landynamix, Mellanox, NETSCOUT Arbor, ProLabs, Rubrik, Röhlig-Grindrod, Tintri by DDN, VNO Systems, NEC/XON, 1.618 Financial Services.
“On behalf of Networks Unlimited team, we thank our generous sponsors for their contribution that will benefit the two organisations, Love Trust and Literacy for life. With the money raised from all the sponsors, we will help nurture future generations of leaders through the delivery of excellent Christian education to vulnerable children in disadvantaged communities, focus on early childhood development and offer support to preschools and crèches in communities of need,” concluded Jacobsz.
