Gartner releases new SWG and CASB reports – Symantec among top vendors

Final stretch of 2018 started off pretty good for Symantec – judging by Gartner. Symantec solutions were recognized as Leaders in two separate reports published within the same month.

The new Gartner report: Magic Quadrant for Secure Web Gateways released in early November confirmed that Symantec made an excellent move by acquiring Blue Coat – a name synonymous with technology behind market-leading SWG solutions for the 9th consecutive year. This Symantec solution continues to dominate under the new name over the past two years, as confirmed by its SWG Leader status for the past 11 years. Symantec is also the only Leader according to Gartner who has on-premise, cloud and hybrid SWG solutions tailored to the needs of users.

Besides maintaining its leading position in the SWG segment, Symantec continued to strengthen its portfolio of web and mail traffic protection products in 2017, and entered the remote browser threat isolation market with the acquisition of Fireglass – better known now as Symantec Web and Email Isolation.

The second Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Access Security Brokers (CASB) report listed Symantec under the Leaders category for the second year in a row. Let’s take a closer look at some statistical data: this year’s predictions by Gartner – in line with their 2017 predictions – imply that by 2020, 60 percent of large enterprises will use a CASB to govern cloud services, followed by a 100% increase in usage compared to the previous year.
