Symantec Positioned in the Leaders Quadrant of the Inaugural Gartner CASB

The inaugural Gartner report for Cloud Access Security Broker products positioned Symantec CloudSOC platform among leading market solutions – infamous Leaders Quadrant – after evaluating 11 different vendors. Last year Forrester ranked CloudSOC a leader in The Forrester Wave™: Cloud Security Gateways report.

Gartner defines CASB products as on-premise or cloud-based security policy solutions, positioned between cloud service providers and their users. Symantec CloudSOC provides visibility and control over cloud app activity, and active governance over data stored in cloud apps. CASB products – including Symantec CloudSOC – offer four key functionalities:

  1. Consolidated overview of cloud app usage – which users access data, what volume of data is transmitted and downloaded using which apps,
  2. Data security – includes DLP controls for preventing data leakage and unauthorized sharing,
  3. Threat protection – detection of malicious activity and file analysis,
  4. Compliance – CASB helps organizations migrating to the cloud to comply with relevant regulations.

All four points are covered by CloudSOC, while also offering integration with existing Symantec solutions: primarily DLP for information control; ProxySG and Web Security Services for app visibility and web gateway control, ATP for advanced analysis of unknown threats; as well as encryption, tokenization, and more.

In the report, Gartner predicted that by 2020, 60% of large enterprises will use a CASB to govern cloud services, up from less than 10% today.
