Proofpoint – 28 October – Microsoft Has Changed How Application Emails Are Sent – What Does This Mean for Your Customers?

Description

Virtual Lunch & Learn

Email remains our most commonly used communication channel—and it’s not just people who rely on it. Applications do too. Time to apply for school? A reminder is sent by email. Invoice on the 25th? Delivered by email. Password reset? Sent via email. “Thank you for your order”? Email. Meeting reminder? Email.

Microsoft has recently introduced new daily limitations on automated email sending, which is already affecting how some organizations can send application-generated emails. On top of this, all major ISPs—including Yahoo, Microsoft, Google, and iCloud—have tightened their authentication requirements for application emails.

This presents two serious challenges for your customers:

  1. Business Disruption – If automated emails don’t get delivered, operations suffer.
  2. Security Risk – If an attacker gains access to an application, they could send malicious emails in your customer’s name.

Your customers are facing both a business risk and an evolving threat landscape.

So, how can we help them reduce risk, ensure deliverability, and demonstrate a clear return on investment (ROI) from their email systems—while addressing this growing challenge?
