Zimperium – 28 september – FBI Warns of Malware Posing as Beta Versions of Apps

Description

Recently, the FBI issued a warning that cybercriminals are embedding malicious code into mobile beta-testing apps in attempts to defraud potential victims. While these apps appear legitimate, using names, images, and descriptions similar to popular apps, they enable the theft of personally identifiable information (PII) or sensitive corporate data for enterprises that have enabled BYOD policy.

Malicious apps are successful vectors that cybercriminals use to gain unauthorized access to mobile devices. This unfettered access can lead to spying, stealing credentials or worse ransomware tactics. On a weekly basis, Zimperium detects nearly 2,000 unidentified malware samples.
