Hacker

A hacker is an individual who uses technical skills to explore, manipulate, or bypass computer systems, networks, and software.

Hackers are typically categorised into different types based on their intentions and activities:

  • White-Hat Hackers: Ethical hackers who use their skills to identify and fix security vulnerabilities, often working with organisations to enhance cybersecurity.
  • Black-Hat Hackers: Malicious hackers who exploit vulnerabilities for illegal activities, such as stealing data, deploying malware, or causing disruptions.
  • Grey-Hat Hackers: Operate in a morally ambiguous area, sometimes discovering vulnerabilities without permission but not with malicious intent.

Hackers may use various techniques, including coding, social engineering, and exploiting system weaknesses. Their actions can have significant implications for cybersecurity, ranging from improving defences to compromising sensitive information. Understanding the different types of hackers helps organisations implement appropriate security measures and response strategies.
