Fortinet Accelerate 2025 – Perception Point, a promising acquisition

In December 2024, Fortinet announced its acquisition of Perception Point, a cybersecurity solution focusing on AI to secure email, browsers and SaaS applications. It is still quite early and even the people within Perception Point do not seem to know what the acquisition will bring. For the moment, the solution is being sold and maintained separately from the current Fortinet portfolio. Nevertheless, it was still very insightful to get a demo at the Perception Point booth and see the product in action.

The platform’s main focus is email, still the number one attack vector. They integrate via API with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, allowing to scan any email coming in, going out or being sent within one’s email domain.

The typical attacks are being covered: social engineering like phishing and squishing, file & URL-based threats, business email compromise, malicious insiders, and data leaks. What really stood out is how they tackled the detection of these threats. Detection is mainly built on AI and combined with their sandboxing technology and dynamic and static analysis, it does not come as a surprise that they won a myriad of awards through their existence.

If an email is being blocked, this is being visualized in an easy to understand manner in their cloud hosted platform. Also, the fact that you get a 24×7 managed incident response service included in your license, was a USP that was highlighted nicely by one of the engineers.
