A good way: From syslog to syslog-ng

syslog-ng provides uniform logging functions on a wide range of platforms. syslog-ng is especially important because the standard syslog programs differ from each other in essential details, making it difficult to build a homogeneous logging system. This problem can be solved by installing syslog-ng on all participating computers. Meanwhile, syslog-ng is a firmly established and stable running replacement for syslog. From our point of view everything speaks for switching to syslog-ng.

Background: In heterogeneous environments, logs are usually collected from a variety of sources and forwarded to multiple destinations, often requiring special agents. The need to manage a large number of logging agents introduces operational complexity and costly overhead. Updating, maintaining, and configuring these agents is a time-consuming activity that provides little benefit.
