Buzzing for Biodiversity: Our Hive Partnership with Softcat

As we mark both World Bee Day on 20th May and International Day for Biological Diversity on 22nd May, we're proud to reflect on the impact of the biodiversity partnership launched in 2025 with Softcat — and celebrate what we've already seen, heard, and learned firsthand.

Inside the Hive: Our Experience Day

Exclusive Networks has sponsored our own beehive in partnership with Softcat and their Nature Connect initiative. On 6th May 2026, we joined the Softcat team for an Inside The Hive experience day — and it was genuinely unforgettable. From suiting up and getting up close with the colony, to learning about the lifecycle of a hive and the extraordinary intelligence of bees as a collective, the day offered a rare, hands-on perspective on just how vital these small creatures are to the world around us. We also got to see our very own sponsored beehive in full, buzzing action.

Why Bees Matter: The Biodiversity Crisis

Biodiversity is in crisis — and bees sit right at the heart of it. As a keystone species, they are essential to healthy ecosystems and global food security. The numbers speak for themselves:

• Over 80% of plants and flowers rely on bees for pollination.

• Pollinated crops are five times more valuable than those that aren't.

These figures make clear that protecting bee populations is not just an environmental concern — it's an economic and food-security imperative. When bee populations decline, entire ecosystems feel the ripple effects, from wildflower meadows to the food on our plates.

Expert Hive Management with Buckley's Bees

To ensure the hives are managed with the highest standards of care and sustainability, Softcat have partnered with Buckley's Bees for professional hive management. As members of both the British Beekeepers Association (BBKA) and the Bee Improvement and Bee Breeders Association (BIBBA), they share a deep commitment to sustainable, ethical beekeeping practices, active biodiversity protection, and passing vital skills and knowledge to future generations. Their expertise ensures that every hive in the programme — including ours — is managed responsibly and contributes meaningfully to local biodiversity.

This partnership is a powerful reminder that the technology channel can be a force for good beyond the solutions we sell.
